Graveside: Private Service

Eugene Platin, age 89 of Danville, California passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024. Gene was born and lived in Brooklyn, New York until his late twenties when he and his wife Barbara moved to Toledo, Ohio where they had three children. Subsequent moves took them back to New York, followed by Aurora, Ohio, and Arlington Heights, Illinois, before establishing their longtime home in Danville, California.

Gene is survived by his loving wife Barbara and his children Mitchell (Madhavi) Platin, Bradley (Teresa) Platin, and Diana (Richard) Weil. Known fondly as "Pa" and "Gramps", Gene was an involved, fun, and loving grandfather to eight grandchildren now ranging in age from 30 to 20 years old: Max Platin; Rachel (Quinn) Stanley; Jacob Platin; Tyler Weil; Elizabeth Platin; Ellie Weil; Chloe Weil; and Nickolas Platin.

Gene served in the US Army and began his career as a businessman in New York at Macy's. He went on to lead Cook's Mart in Illinois, co-found The Imaginarium toy store in California, and become the president and CEO of The Sesame Street Retail Store before retiring in 1995. One of Gene's favorite things to do was to go out for a really nice dinner with the family.

There will be a small private graveside ceremony, followed by a memorial service at a later date.
