To Jeff we are family, nuclear and extended
His devotion to Andrew and Lois was essential to his existence and it extended to all of us brothers and sisters, scattered as we are across America and the world.
We are family - cue Sister Sledge - gotta have those lyrics and rhythm of musical life which was such a part of who he was, what he loved, how he lived.
Sixty (60) years we shared, from bar mitzvahs to Woodstock to college to marriage to children to divorce and beyond to life after and so much more.
Jeff was proud of retaining his adolescence longer than the rest of us.
He loved growing up when we did, in the age of the best music - good old sex & drugs & rock n roll - and history and politics with purpose and travel and opportunities.
He was an archivist, collecting and cataloging the music, posters, art, ticket stubs of our generation. And he kept this alive and current attending local concerts, comedy, lectures and discussions.
He loved Bruce and Bob and Sting and Dead at 50 and at Sphere and the Fillmores and Shoreline and California and New York.
Jeff loved connecting with his family - US - and he made one last circuit trip to New York City and New Paltz and New England and shared time once more with his blood cousins and acquired brothers and sisters.
And then suddenly, with no apparent warning or reason, he left us.
Fit and healthy, with his yoga and pilates and walking and diet, he did everything right.
But, somehow, his body betrayed him, and he left us.
He left us with memories and lessons.
You've said being with Jeff was so easy, a kind gentle guy in a painful world. You've said he was a link to the past for his family, an ever so sweet man. Those Hurwitz family signature blue eyes, a la Paul Newman, lit up our time together. You know! He truly was one of the good guys.
Jeff lives on and shall do so in our hearts and minds. He will be missed. We are family.
"...And so castles made of sand, slips into the sea, eventually..."
Raise a glass; take a toke; Rest in Peace, brother, with our love.
