Martin Feldman

Cantor Martin Feldman, who served for 43 years at Congregation Sherith Israel, died at the age of 97 surrounded by his loving family.

It is no wonder that wherever he went he was greeted enthusiastically by congregants, students, and friends, all of whose lives were enriched by his presence. He was sure to be at the side of anyone who needed his spiritual strength and charisma for lifecycle events. In his free time his passion was tennis.

In addition to all he accomplished, there was one more extraordinary success, that is his 64-year marriage to his remarkable wife Nancy, with whom he had a beautiful life filled with love, respect, and laughter. The two of them were devoted to the arts and regularly attended the opera, symphony, ballet, and the Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning.

After retirement in 2003, he continued to be a significant part of the Jewish community as well as officiating at religious services on cruise ships.

Cantor Feldman is survived by his wife Nancy; his children, Daniel Kresteller (Gwen) and Deborah Selch (Jason); and his six grandchildren, Leland Kresteller, Elizabeth Kresteller (Alex), Emily Selch, Rebecca Selch (Hakan), Julia Selch, and Rachel Selch.

There will be a community celebration of Cantor Feldman's life on Sunday, May 3rd at 1:30 PM at Congregation Sherith Israel, 2266 California Street, San Francisco, CA 94115.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Fund at Congregation Sherith Israel, 2266 California Street, San Francisco, CA 94115.
