Linda Gebroe (July 22, 1953- June 25, 2026) was a gifted writer, a passionate advocate for equality, a devoted Giants fan, a proud lefty who played first base like Will Clark, and a cherished friend whose warmth, humor, and generosity touched countless lives.
A lifelong communicator, Linda spent nearly four decades helping organizations tell their stories. Her essays, commentaries, and stories appeared in numerous magazines, books, and news outlets. Through her writing, she captured the richness of everyday life with intelligence, wit, and compassion. She was a frequent contributor to KQED "Perspectives," where she offered trenchant and amusing observations on delightfully random subjects.
Linda generously gave her time and talents to charitable organizations that championed women's and LGBTQ+ rights and many other causes, reflecting her lifelong commitment to justice, inclusion, and helping others. She made a lasting difference through her kindness and dedication to making the world a better place.
Linda was a great athlete. She played tennis and softball, and in middle school she could throw a baseball farther than anyone in her grade, male or female.
Those who knew Linda will remember her as hilarious, kind, and simply unlike anyone else. She had an amazing gift for making people laugh. She treasured her family and friends and cultivated many deep and sincere lifelong relationships.
Linda is survived by many loving relatives and an extraordinary circle of devoted friends who will forever cherish her memory. Though she will be profoundly missed, her legacy lives on through her writing, her charitable work, and the many lives she enriched with her friendship.
