Edith Ezrailson Cohen passed away quite suddenly in her San Francisco home on September 5, 2019. She was 81 years old. Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Edith completed a degree in French at Smith College in Massachusetts and was a high school French teacher when she was first married. With her husband and children, she moved from the Boston area to San Francisco at the height of the 1960s, where she soon became enamored of the city's counterculture. She eventually completed a Master's Degree in French at San Francisco State University, where she also studied (and taught) film. Movies became her lifelong passion, and she was ever eager to discuss what she had most recently seen. In recent years, Edith deplored the waning of the arts scene in San Francisco as the tech industry transformed the local landscape. Edith is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Stephen N. Cohen, her children, Emily Jane Cohen-Ravezzi and Eddy Falconer, her son-in-law, Luca Tullio Ravezzi, and her brother, Stuart (Izzy) Ezrailson, and his family. She will be sorely missed.
An inurnment will take place at the San Francisco Columbarium and Funeral Home on Friday, September 27, 2019. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Civil Liberties Union.
