Lloyd "Andy" Anderson

March 13, 1921 - January 27, 1916

Lloyd C. Anderson, "Andy", of Millbrae passed away suddenly peacefully at the age of 94. He was born on March 13, 1921 in Oakland, CA and graduated from Berkeley High School in June, 1939. Growing up Andy enjoyed playing sports and especially loved baseball.

Andy enlisted in the United States Navy in October of 1939 and served aboard the submarine USS Flying Fish (SS229) for the majority of his 20 year naval career. It was aboard the Flying Fish where he recorded 4,500 dives in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was awarded and decorated with Good Conduct + 5 Stars, Asiatic Pacific +12 stars, Navy Commendation with Combat "V" + 1 star, and a Submarine Combat Pin + 9 stars. He retired February 1, 1960 as a Chief Warrant Officer 2nd Class.

Professionally, after his 20 year naval service, Andy went on to earn a BA in Education and an MA in Speech and Language Pathology from San Francisco State University. He worked for the Millbrae School District as a Speech and Language Pathologist/Audiologist. He also tutored many Millbrae students in his extra time. He retired in 1990 after 20 years of teaching. Andy simultaneously worked for the City of San Francisco as a Stationary Engineer at the San Francisco Opera House, and retired in 1999 after 20 years.

Andy will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his easy going attitude, his humor, his competitiveness, and his love for physical fitness. He is survived by his beloved wife Dorothy of 50 years, his son Erik and his wife Roslyn, his daughter Alison Bakaler and her husband Jay. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Dane and Makena Anderson, and Jonah and Eva Bakaler.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Home of Peace Cemetery at 1299 El Camino Real in Colma with a reception following. In lieu of flowers please send a donation in Andy's honor to the charity of your choice.
