Carl was born in Detroit, MI the day the Golden Gate Bridge opened (May 27, 1937). He grew up on a farm in Dryden, MI where his parents ran a summer camp. Carl graduated from the University of Michigan and its Law School. He was associate sports editor of the "Michigan Daily." He practiced law for close to 50 years, most of it as partner in a Lapeer, MI firm. He loved the law and was a "lawyer's lawyer."
Carl met Beth (Weingarden) at a political event in Detroit and they married in 1965. They loved to travel, socialize and volunteer in their various southeastern MI communities. Carl also enjoyed playing tennis regularly with friends for many years. He was president and new-building chair of Temple Beth El in Flint and served on many boards. Most of all Carl enjoyed family activities. In 2014 Carl and Beth moved to CA ("Rossmoor" in Walnut Creek) to be near most of their children and grandchildren. Carl is survived by Beth, daughter Rebecca (Nick Schoen), sons James (Kate) and Daniel (Judy Bernstein) and grandchildren Max, Josh, Elliot, Zach, Aya, Zoe, Alexa and Olivia. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Meta Riseman and sister Joanne Mandel.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, The Sierra Club, and the Anti Defamation League. Shiva will be held at the Riseman home Saturday, Sunday and Monday, November 24 - 26.
