Monia Ostrow Katz
July 5, 1914 - June 12, 2016
Passed away quietly in her sleep just shy of her 102 birthday. Monia was born in Russia to Morris and Rachel Ostrow who had immigrated to the United States at the beginning of the Bolshevik Revolution and eventually settled in San Francisco in 1921.
Monia graduated from Commerce High School in San Francisco and shortly thereafter married Bill, then moved to San Jose and both successfully owned and operated their dress shop and business for many years.
Monia is survived by her only son Jerrold Katz of Los Angeles and her sisters Rita Stone of San Rafael, CA and Florence Rose of Tacoma, WA. Monia is preceded in death by her loving husband William (Bill) Katz and her daughter in law Eileen Katz who passed in 2009. Monia was devoted to her niece Louise, and her husband Arnold Epstein; to her grand niece Nicole and husband Ari Klionsky; there two children Alexandra and Jacob Klionsky, and to her grandnephew Matthew and his wife Ellen Epstein of Boston MA; and their two children Myles and Brady Epstein, and her nephew Edward Rose and his daughter Leah of Tacoma WA. Monia was also devoted to her two long time best friends, Lillian and Bob Mania of San Jose, CA.
Monia will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.
Gravesite services will be held on Thursday, June 16th at 1:00 PM at Eternal Home Cemetery, 1051 El Camino Real in Colma, CA. under the direction of SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPEL - SAN FRANCISCO. Donations in her memorial may be made to the charity of your choice.
